The first Article of Faith in the Mormon Church states that, "We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost." 1

Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are referred to as the Godhead. They direct this world and all other creations of our Father in Heaven. The Mormon belief is that they are three separate beings with distinct roles, but they are one in purpose and doctrine.

Heavenly Father is the Ruler of the Heavens and the earth. As is stated numerous times in the scriptures, God created heaven and earth and all things. He made the moon, the stars, and the sun. He organized the world in which we live and gave it shape, motion, and life. He made man in his own image. He is perfect. He is a loving Father in Heaven who has love for each one of His children. He is merciful, kind, powerful, knowledgeable and knows all things. All good things come from God; everything that He does, He does for His children. Heavenly Father wants us to return to His presence. Mormons believe that it is our responsibility to know God. We do so by studying the scriptures and praying to a loving Father in Heaven. By keeping His commandments we can become more like Him.

Under the direction of Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ created the earth.2 Christ was baptized to fulfill the commandment set by God and to set the proper example for man. He taught the truths of eternity, the purpose of life on earth and the potential that man has as sons and daughters of God in the life to come. Christ was willing to come to earth, to take upon himself the sins of all mankind. He was chosen and ordained to be our Savior. The teachings of the Savior in the scriptures, sets the standard for man to follow. By following His teachings, we are able to return to live with Him and our Heavenly Father.

Mormons believe that one of God’s greatest gifts to us is the gift of the Holy Ghost. He is the third member of the Godhead and a personage of spirit. Which means, without flesh and bones.3 He is referred to as the Spirit, the Spirit of God or the Comforter. The Holy Ghost role is to testify of the truth of all things, to be a witness for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, and to be a comforter.
