The Mormon Church

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church) was organized in 1830. The Church claims to be the restored Church of the Savior, re-established on the earth after several centuries of religious confusion and sectarianism that Mormons call “The Great Apostasy.” The apostasy was a time of spiritual darkness, a time in which the true gospel previously taught by Jesus Christ was splintered and lost to the main populus.

The claims of the Mormon Church are simple and clear, but have often been confused by far-too-prevalent misconceptions and misinformation perpetuated by those who do not fully understand the position, doctrines, and nuances of Mormon beliefs. This site is for those who wish to find genuine answers regarding what Mormons believe. It identifies and defines clearly the Mormon belief in the atonement and resurrection of Jesus Christ—the centerpiece of faith and action in each faithful Mormon’s life. It addresses the basic principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ as reflected in Mormonism, as revealed by the Savior and His appointed servants over time. It explains the need for, and content of, modern revelation, which is a foundational principle of the Church of Jesus Christ. Mormons believe that a loving Father does not stop speaking to His children, and that there are additional scriptural records which bear that out.

Mormons respect all other churches and creeds, and believe that each person has the right to worship according to his or her conscience. It is consistent with Mormon belief that the writers of the Constitution of the United States also believed in that inalienable right. Mormons embrace all truth, and believe that many Christian denominations share true doctrines in common. On those we build, as the Savior Himself has restored more to the earth for everyone’s benefit and ultimate salvation.

This Web site’s purpose is to openly and honestly discuss what Mormonism really is and what it stands for. We hope to convince all men and women to embrace the true Church of Jesus Christ, by keeping all the good and true principles they learned in their own churches and adding the unique truths found in the restored gospel, the same gospel preached by Jesus in Palestine, 2000 years ago.

    Dear Christy,
I will be happy to provide the basics of Mormon belief, so that you will know what your grandmother was taught and believed.

Your grandmother was taught that Jesus Christ is the Son of God the Father, and that by following Jesus she will enter heaven and be with her family forever.

Some Latter-day Saint churches have family history libraries, but some towns and cities have separate building to house the libraries, to which all are welcome to attend to do research. There are genealogist-librarians there to assist beginners and to help advanced researchers.

Please check through local telephone directories under “Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, The,” and also under “Family History Library.” There is no charge to use the library facilities, although there may be small fees payable for shipping into the library films containing the records of your family from other areas, possibly including other parts of the world.

The best way to begin is to write down as much as you know about your parentsm their parents, and your grandparents, etc, together with important dates or approximate dates where the precise dates are not known. This is the place to begin, as also is your family history, marriage, children, etc. You will soon get the hang of it, and cheerful help is always available.

Johanna, what have you read already and what questions do you have? Our articles of faith are listed on this site. We believe in the Savior’s atoning sacrifice, that we lived before this earth life as spirit children of Our Heavenly Parents, that we are here to progress and be tested through mortal experiences and opposition, and that the Savior has restored the truths of His gospel to the earth in our day through a personal appearance. We also believe that God continues to speak to us collectively and personally. Tell us about you and how we can assist you further. Thanks for visiting our unofficial site.
